When I ordered the new Borla Exhaust System from Performance Products, I also received a new Air Filter from K&N.
Before the
installation of the exhaust system,
I dropped the new filter in place.
It took me about 5 minutes.
The filter I received was the model that fits into the original Toyota air box.
There is also another model available.
The other type consists of a complete kit,
that will rebuild the airbox intake completely.
But, since I already have
mounted a snorkel,
from
ARB,
I cannot use the rebuild kit.
So I was very happy to receive the standard K&N filter for my
Toyota.
I was sincerely surpriced with the performance gain from the new filter. The truck is raised 4 inches and I use 33" tires from BF Goodrich. But, I had not yet re-geared the differentials. So, the truck was getting really tired on high gears. (I have since re-geared both front and rear differentials.) With the new filter, almost everything that was lost before was regained. I had expected some difference, but not this much. Not from just changing an air filter. This is definitively one of my first recommended actions on any 4Runner.
